A month before the presidential elections in Chile, according to the latest Cadem poll, the left-wing candidate, Jeannette Jara, continues to lead with 28%, followed by José Antonio Kast with 23% and Evelyn Matthei with 14%. However, the pollster points out that, if there were a runoff, Kast would surpass Jara by 11 points (47% vs 36%).
"We have a scenario for the first round. Today there are eight candidates from very diverse expressions, but Jara is the one who represents the center-left with a conglomerate of eight parties, something that had not been seen in Chilean politics. She is a woman with a lot of experience, she managed to pass many laws regarding public policies," said Alejandra Sepúlveda, an independent Chilean senator and spokesperson for Jeannette Jara's campaign command, in dialogue with Cara o Ceca.
"Kast represents the extreme right, which does not reach any agreement, which has no capacity for dialogue and which does not even say how they intend to govern. He says that he is going to cut 6 billion dollars from the nation's budget but he does not explain how he is going to do it," she added.
"Janeth Jara has proposals to promote what Chile needs. First, to improve security in the country with more technology and budget. Second, she gives great importance to the issue of health and being able to reinforce primary care, among other things," she concluded.
Trump reaffirmed his support for Argentina but it will depend on the election result
Javier Milei met with Donald Trump at the White House with the aim of strengthening his strategic alliance with the North American government. Although the Executive received praise from the Republican leader, there was also a conditionality regarding the national legislative elections on October 26. "If he doesn't win, he won't have us. If he loses, we won't be generous with Argentina," Trump warned.
"Trump's support for Milei has no similar precedent. Today what the Republican leader says is very important because Argentina is in a balance of payments crisis," said Cecilia Todesca, economist and deputy chief of ministers of the Nation during the government of Alberto Fernández, in Cara o Ceca.
"The world is changing. We are in a great geopolitical dispute between the US and China over new technologies. In this context, Argentina, which is not a systemic country, today has great relevance. On the one hand, due to its positioning in America, South America, Mercosur and, on the other hand, due to access to Antarctica, its natural, energy, mineral resources, rare earths and industrial capabilities," she added.
