Rorshok's weekly ten-minute update of stuff happening in Malawi. First up, the Ministry of Health continues to inform the general public that the advertisements circulating on social media accepting job applications for Data Clerks, Hospital Attendants, Health Surveillance Assistants and Security Guards are not coming from them. In more health news, the Ministry of Health has disclosed that it will start constructing over 50 health posts in rural areas, beginning next month. The Ministry confirmed preparations for construction are already ahead of schedule. It was announced last December, the Ministry planned to construct 900 health facilities in hard-to-reach areas to ensure Malawians have readily available access to health services, regardless of their location. There were riots at Zomba Central Prison this week as inmates protested against the deplorable food offered at the facility. A prison spokesperson added that authorities at the prison are engaging the inmates over their concerns. The prisoners have reportedly gone on a hunger strike. Rorshok's weekly ten-minute update of stuff happening in Malawi. First up, Malawi is now issuing digital COVID-19 vaccination certificates for foreign travels. This means, those who will be receiving the incoming Pfizer vaccine, should expect a digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Malawi is expected to receive its first batch of the Pfizer vaccine this month, making it the third brand of COVID vaccines to be administered in the country. The Ministry of Health announced new, more relaxed measures of Corona prevention, citing that the country has entered Level 2 of the restrictions following a reduction in cases. A fourth year student at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) recently invented a cooker, adding that he came up with this prototype to help reduce the rate of deforestation in the country. First up, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has said it is monitoring fuel price movements on the international market before it moves to adjust prices. Fuel prices have remained volatile on the international market with the Kwacha losing traction with other major trading currencies, making price hikes at the pump likely. From one uneasy increase to another...Out of 2,475 people screened in Dedza recently, 2,099 have been diagnosed with scabies. This development is obviously of increasing concern to Health Authorities in the district. An additional 376 people were also diagnosed with other skin diseases. Good news for the truly hard working. The Deputy Minister of Labour said this week that 81 of the 450 names of ex-miners who worked in mines in South Africa between 1970 and 1988, whose records of service have been retrieved by the South African government, will start receiving their pension by next month. Rorshok's weekly ten-minute update of stuff happening in Malawi. The Malawi government is urging all citizens to become vaccinated, especially now that over 160,000 AstraZeneca shots have arrived in the country, courtesy of Sweden and the COVAX facility. Details on where you can receive your vaccine can be found on the Malawi Ministry of Health’s Facebook page. The government isn’t the only institution urging people to get vaccinated. TNM has called on its employees to receive the COVID vaccine under a mandatory 10-day period, according to a leaked internal memorandum that was seen and revealed by Times 360 Malawi. National Bank of Malawi (NBM) PLC has partnered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) to provide members with a channel for making various payments through the bank’s digital platforms while providing customers with a safe and secure means to make transactions.
