Today on No Priors, we discuss defense technology, AI, drones, and autonomous vehicles (think giant submarine drones!) with Brian Schimpf, the co-founder and CEO of Anduril, a next-generation defense technology company. From his early days of coding at age 12 to working on self-driving cars, and finally founding Anduril, Brian's incredible journey led him to create innovative solutions for pressing defense problems. This episode covers the impact of AI, intelligent software, and other technologies to defense. We discuss the challenges of deploying and selling technology in the government spaceBrian shared his perspective on building general-purpose defense technology, the importance of a software-first approach, and how Anduril is working to solve urgent defense problems with speed and efficiency. As we wrapped up our conversation, we touched on the recent shift in the low cost of space launch, which has changed the way the US thinks about defense. We examined the proliferation of satellites, drones, and hypersonic missiles, and how these technologies can be applied, scaled, and built in a way that can fundamentally shift America's approach to defense. #635 - Mark Normand - Why Is Everyone So Angry All The Time?

From Modern Wisdom

Mark Normand is a podcaster, an actor and a comedian. The mere discussion of certain topics can cause huge controversy. Both sides of every issue are adamant that their opposition is fundamentally evil, malicious, bigoted or a secret race of lizard people. What is driving this huge demand for outrage? And can we do anything about it? Expect to learn Mark’s takes on the Bud Light & Miller Lite controversies, why brands have completely lost their sense of humour, whether you have engaged in Digital Blackface and why it makes you racist, the ethical dilemma of incest, why AI girlfriends will destroy society, whether Tom Hanks is part of the Illuminati, if there’s a joke that is so offensive it should never be told and much more... AI Podcast 2.0: The host in the machine

From Planet Money

In Part 1 of this series, AI proved that it could use real research and real interviews to write an original script for an episode of Planet Money. Our next task was to teach the computer how to sound like us. How to read that script aloud like a Planet Money host.On today's show, we explore the world of AI-generated voices, which have become so lifelike in recent years that they can credibly imitate specific people. To test the limits of the technology, we attempt to create our own synthetic voice by training a computer on recordings of former Planet Money host Robert Smith. Then we introduce synthetic Robert to his very human namesake. There are a lot of ethical, and economic, questions raised by a technology that can duplicate anyone's voice. To help us make sense of it all, we seek the advice of an artist who has embraced AI voice clones: the musician Grimes. This episode was produced by Emma Peaslee and Willa Rubin, with help from Sam Yellowhorse Kesler. It was edited by Keith Romer and fact-checked by Sierra Juarez. Engineering by James Willetts. Jess Jiang is our acting executive producer. We built a Planet Money AI chat bot. Trials to Triumph: Sheryl Lee Ralph

From Oprah's Super Soul

With over 40 years in the entertainment industry, Sheryl Lee Ralph has a trove of both trials and triumphs to her credit. In this sneak speak episode of OWN’s podcast, Trials to Triumphs, host Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins talks with The Tony Award-nominated multi-hyphenate who takes Ashley back to the beginning of her career and describes who she was before landing her breakthrough role as Deena Jones in the seminal Broadway musical Dreamgirls. Sheryl underscores key lessons she learned from her parents and mentors, including the power to determine which doors to leave closed. The original Dreamgirl also unpacks the most difficult season of her life: navigating her divorce as a single mother, leaving the hit tv show Moesha, and losing herself along the way. Sheryl recalls the encounter that helped her “rise to the occasion of her own life,” and how, just like her character Deena, she owned her inner diva. Want more podcasts from OWN? Adderall, Stimulants & Modafinil for ADHD: Short- & Long-Term Effects

From Huberman Lab

In this episode, I explain how medications such as Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse and other stimulants work to increase focus and treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I explain the brain circuits involved in focus and the key roles dopamine and norepinephrine play in their regulation. Then I explain how stimulants such as Adderall and Vyvanse can increase focus and reduce hyperactivity in kids or adults with ADHD, and how and why Ritalin and other medications (e.g., Modafinil, Guanfacine) may work better for some. I explain the long-term effects of ADHD medications on height, cardiovascular health, hormones, predisposition to addiction and psychosis, and whether these treatments can be used and then stopped. I also discuss the immense individual variation in dosage sensitivity for these medications and the negative side-effects that occur from recreational use. This episode ought to benefit anyone with ADHD, their parents, those on ADHD medications or anyone curious about how these medications work. For the full show notes, visit hubermanlab.com.
