Książki: „Śmierć i inni święci” Tomasz Pindel.
Santa Muerte, or Holy Death, footballer Diego Maradona, robber Jesús Malverde, tango master Carlos Gardel – although the Catholic Church has never beatified or canonized them, they are saints in Latin America. Sacralization of historical figures – celebrities, criminals, artists, activists – is one of the elements of the world of beliefs in Latin America, and also a key to understanding social tensions, aspirations and frustrations. Because the syncretic religiosity of Latinos is a fascinating topic in itself, but – as the guest of today's episode of the Report on Books says – it can also serve as a lens through which you can see how Latin America is undergoing another metamorphosis. In the reportage stories that Tomasz Pindel wrote down in the book "Death and Other Saints", we will find a contradictory panorama of Latin American reality, where the sacred combines with the profane, and elements of magic permeate the world of politics.
