Raport o książce – „Hiroszima” Johna Herseya
When John Hersey went to Hiroshima, he was a 30-year-old reporter. Did he suspect that the text he was writing for The New Yorker would be hailed as the most important report of the 20th century, and that Albert Einstein would run from kiosk to kiosk to collect as many copies of this now-historic issue as possible? When Hersey was writing his report, Americans knew about the two atomic bombs that fell on two Japanese cities – first Hiroshima, then Nagasaki. There was a lot of talk about the triumph of American science, about how the attack on Japan helped end World War II. But nothing was said about the people who were victims of this event. The Hiroshima report made not only Americans, but also readers around the world, aware of the previously unimaginable scale of destruction and human suffering caused by the use of atomic weapons. He told the story of six city residents who survived - a story that is still relevant today.
